Project overview:
- New 12-classroom block with facilities
- Joist section size - 400 series
- 150mm thick slab for both fire and acoustic ratings
This state-of-the-art twelve-classroom block includes a SPEEDFLOOR® Suspended Concrete Flooring for its midfloor. The 150mm thick slab was created by pouring concrete onto a 23-gauge galvanised tray integrated with SPEEDFLOOR® Suspended Concrete Flooring 400 Series Joist sections, resulting in a high-strength composite flooring system that is one of the lightest in the market.
Fast and easy to install, with no painting required, the system uses comparatively less material than other approaches. The roll-formed joist with its flanged holes produces a rigid and accurate steel section that has a high load carrying capacity and excellent spanning characteristics with no propping needed. Thanks to SPEEDFLOOR®’s integrated decking trays and adjustable lock bar system, there is no need for removeable plywood formwork panels, further reducing the use of excess material and labour. Pre-punched holes offer easy integration of services and the galvanised steel joists are light enough to be positioned by hand, requiring less cranage and labour onsite. The final floor slab has the required thickness to achieve the necessary fire and acoustic ratings, providing a safe learning environment for students.
